University Alliance responds to latest UCAS application figures

In response to the publication of analysis of full-time undergraduate applications by UCAS, Maddalaine Ansell, Chief Executive of University Alliance, said:

“It is encouraging to see that young people continue to recognise that a degree is still the best route to career success – and particularly good to see an increase in applications from young people living in disadvantaged areas.

“The UK economy is a knowledge economy with most new jobs in high skill areas.  We need more graduates if our businesses are to innovate and grow.  Alliance universities offer practice-based, industry-focused courses which give our graduates the skills employers want and enable them to hit the ground running in their chosen careers.”

Notes for Editors

The full set of UCAS statistics on January applications can be found on their website from Friday 30 January. The date of 15 January on which the statistics are based is the date when applicants are guaranteed equal consideration by universities. It is not the closing date for applications to university for 2015.
