The University of Huddersfield’s roots go back 175 years but its sights are firmly set on the future. Over £100 million has been invested in the campus and its resources over the past 10 years.

Huddersfield was recently named Times Higher Education University of the Year, and previous to this was awarded two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in 2013, and Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2012.

In 2014, the University was awarded a 4 star rating by QS. Huddersfield is also first in England for professionally qualified teaching staff (HEFCE 2016).

The University has world-leading applied research groups in biomedical sciences, engineering and physical sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities (REF 2014). The EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology, the Institute for Railway Research, the International Institute for Accelerator Applications, the Turbocharger Research Institute, and the analytical and chemical process research centre, IPOS, are amongst the University’s established centres.

Huddersfield is home to the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre – a ground-breaking, part-EU funded facility that provides office, lab, workshop and conference space for businesses ranging from multi-nationals to start-ups, with a direct conduit to the University’s researchers. It also houses The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre, which provides space and mentoring for large numbers of student and recent-graduate start-ups.

The University’s Enterprise team offers support to current students and graduates of up to 5 years to develop freelance opportunities through self-employment, or start-up their own business.
