DMU’s record of excellence in Higher Education dates back to 1870.

DMU produces capable, skilled and ambitious graduates, who have pursued successful careers across a wide range of disciplines and professions. There are over 170 professional accredited courses and the postgraduate diploma in Journalism boasts an employment record of almost 100%.

There are 180 undergraduate courses to study – a third of which adapt every year to reflect changes in employment demand. DMU currently employs 10 National Teacher Fellows (2nd highest number nationally) which is testament to our teaching excellence. DMU achieved a 50% increase in research grants and in the 2008 RAE, 43% of DMU’s research was rated as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

DMU was placed amongst the top institutions in the country for our English Literature research. We received the 4th highest overall average score, equal to the Universities of Cambridge and Warwick, with 40% of research activity ranked as ’4 star’. RAE rankings also include the University’s Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development. The Institute is very highly rated with 60% of research being classed as world-leading.
