As part of the UA Powering Action on Climate Change campaign, the Doctoral Training Alliance – UA’s flagship collaborative programme – is focusing in on the research our doctoral researchers are doing to address the global challenges of climate change. Across the DTA network, doctoral researchers are looking at how we can reduce our energy consumption and provide more sustainable societies for all to live in.
Building on the applied research strengths, industry-focus and collaborative ethos of our members, the DTA supports four interdisciplinary research programmes in Applied Biosciences for Health, Energy Social Policy and Future Societies, across a network of 20 university partners nationwide.
DTA partners’ shared vision is the future-proofing of research and innovation through developing a national research ecosystem that maximises complementary strengths, is responsive and relevant to society and industry, and nurtures future capability within the high-quality research activity found in Alliance universities.
The DTA Energy programme focuses on producing the next generation of energy experts through equipping doctoral researchers with the skills and experience to tackle the global challenge of ensuring future security and sustainability of energy supplies and the management of energy demand.
Whether the communities of the future are mega-cities, urban, rural or remote, the infrastructure that supports them – including housing, manufacturing, transport and services – will rely on an energy generation and distribution network that is stable, secure, and resilient to climate change and terrorism. This network will need to be sustainable in both environmental and financial terms, integrate with more intelligent systems, and be developed alongside more effective policies.
