Responding to today’s announcement of 10,000 additional student places Professor Professor Janet Beer, Chair-elect of the University Alliance and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University said:
“With increasing demand for higher education from qualified applicants, University Alliance welcomes today’s announcement to deliver student support funding for 10,000 students but urges the Government to provide the necessary institutional funding. If the high quality of research-led learning and student experience is to be maintained, it is essential that these places are fully funded.
“As the largest provider of student places across the university mission groups, Alliance universities will continue to work hard to support growth in the sector but not at the cost of the student experience.
“Alliance universities are committed to providing a high-quality, research-informed learning environment, equipping graduates for the 21st century. In these difficult economic circumstances, it is crucial for the Government to continue to invest in higher education.”
