University Alliance responds to Universities UK report on international students in higher education

University Alliance welcomes the report by Universities UK, International Students in higher education: the UK and its competition.

Professor Steve West, Chair of University Alliance, said:

“In addition to removing international students from the net migration target, the government needs to reintroduce the two year post-study work visas for all graduates from UK universities. It is madness that we are cutting off this pipeline of the world’s brightest talent.

“Not only are they paying their own way and investing in our excellent university system – benefitting local students and communities – they bring fresh ideas during their time in the workplace which drive business growth. They then go on to build important global links when they return to their countries of origin.”
