UA responds to government’s review of post-18 education

Commenting on the review into post-18 education announced by the Prime Minister Theresa May today, University Alliance Chief Executive Maddalaine Ansell said:

“The first thing the review needs to recognise is that modern universities already provide high quality technical and professional education at all levels, meeting the needs of industry and public services. These courses are central to the vision the Prime Minister has set out and they have to be properly funded.

“The review is an opportunity to listen carefully to students’ concerns and put in place a system which is both fair, and seen to be fair. It is also an opportunity to revisit the question of support for part-time students, mature students and students from disadvantaged backgrounds, where it is now clear the current system has a range of flaws.

“Alliance universities have been at the forefront of innovation and flexible provision in higher education to widen choices for students, including through two-year accelerated degrees, so we support any further development of these routes.”
