Today (2 February 2023), University Alliance has formally welcomed its newest member, the University of West London (UWL).
The Alliance brings together the UK’s leading professional and technical universities, supporting them to collaborate and share best practice enabling them to provide solutions to powering the UK’s future in terms of growth, jobs, skills and opportunity.
All alliance universities have unique strengths in delivering excellent teaching; powerful and impactful research; their role and impact locally as well as internationally; their commitment to inclusivity in terms of their student and staff cohorts; and above all their industry-focus. Made by and for industry all Alliance universities can chart their beginnings – often hundreds of years ago – to delivering for industry. That remains true today and is the defining attribute of an Alliance university member.
Vanessa Wilson, CEO, University Alliance said:
“The University of West London is an exciting addition to University Alliance. With high quality teaching, an excellent student experience and an ambitious research programme, UWL are a perfect fit for the Alliance.
With the UK facing growing inequality, slow growth and workforce shortages across the public and private sectors, Alliance universities’ expertise in working with industry to deliver practical skills and knowledge will become ever more essential.
As our numbers grow, we can have greater impact as a collective. Together, we will continue to find solutions that deliver growth in our communities and develop the skills and knowledge that will power the UK into the future. We look forward to working with UWL to achieve these aims.”
UWL Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Peter John CBE said:
“In a period of strong growth and development for UWL, we are excited to be joining University Alliance. Our mission is closely aligned with that of the Alliance – we have a long history of working with industry in developing courses to support employer needs and provide life-changing career opportunities for our students.
Our graduates are among the most employable and enterprising in the country. The University has ambitious plans for the future and we are confident that through this new partnership with UA and connecting with universities with shared values and common goals, we can work together as a force for greater good, delivering impact and economic benefits both regionally and nationally.”
