University Alliance welcomes back founding member Bournemouth University

Bournemouth University has officially become a member of University Alliance (UA), joining 17 other leading professional and technical universities across the UK. 

As a former and founding member of University Alliance, Bournemouth University’s return marks a significant moment. Bournemouth’s renewed membership signals a strong commitment to shaping the future of higher education through innovative teaching, industry partnerships, and applied research that delivers real-world solutions. 

As UA’s eighteenth member, Bournemouth will bring substantial research strength to the Alliance, with 65% of its research rated world-leading or internationally excellent in REF 2021. BU is also ranked in the top third of UK institutions for research power, reflecting both the quality and scale of its research activity. 

They will bring outstanding expertise in the creative industries, health, sustainability, and digital innovation, all underpinned by strong industry partnerships. 

To become a member of University Alliance, candidate institutions are assessed against rigours criteria including research excellence, teaching excellence, knowledge exchange impact, institution size and subject mix.  

Professor Alison Honour, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Bournemouth University, said:
