‘An act of cultural and economic vandalism that risks undermining the talent pipeline on which our public services, economy and future prosperity depend’: UA responds to the Strategic Priorities Grant announcement

In response to the government’s announcement on the Strategic Priorities Grant funding, University Alliance CEO Vanessa Wilson said:

“Today’s announcement on Strategic Priorities Grant funding is a short-sighted and irresponsible decision that flies in the face of the government’s own industrial strategy. Strategic Priorities Grant funding exists because some subjects cost more to deliver and underpin the country’s future skills needs. Removing support from them is a profound contradiction.”

“The decision to cut funding for creative subjects is particularly baffling. The creative industries are rightly identified as a strategic growth sector and one of the UK’s strongest economic assets, yet once again creative education is first in line when savings need to be found. Alongside cuts to nursing and computing provision, this represents an act of cultural and economic vandalism that risks undermining the talent pipeline on which our public services, economy and future prosperity depend.”
