Professor Anthony Woodman will formally take up the role of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire on 1 September 2025. He joins the university following a distinguished tenure as Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of West London (UWL), where he led on research, enterprise, innovation, and external engagement.

His academic background is in molecular oncology, with a research focus on the development of diagnostic and prognostic platforms to inform cancer care. His work has involved collaborations with major pharmaceutical companies, including Roche and GSK, and he has published over 125 papers and conference proceedings.

Before joining UWL in October 2011, Professor Woodman held the role of Professor of Translational Medicine at Cranfield University, and later served as Chief Executive of ICRI Global Research, supporting clinical drug development across India, Singapore, and the UK.

He studied at Sunderland Polytechnic, earned a Master’s degree with distinction in experimental pathology/toxicology, and completed a PhD in pathology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London, with postdoctoral experience at Dublin City University and the John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford.
