University Alliance comment on launch of KIS

Commenting on the launch of the Key Information Sets (KIS), Libby Hackett, Chief Executive of University Alliance said:

“We welcome the launch of KIS, which will provide much better information and transparency across the sector helping prospective students make more informed decisions on the future of their education. Choosing where and what to study is a huge decision for any student and therefore it is essential that they are provided with clear and impartial information to make the right decision for them. KIS highlights important areas such as professional accreditation, financial support and employment rates, for which some courses at Alliance universities are amongst the highest in the country.

“However, it is important to stress that KIS will never fully capture the wider student experience. Universities provide transformational experiences both in and out of the formal teaching environment. Whilst KIS can provide a useful steer, prospective students need to be reminded that this does not provide the full picture.

“The experiences of former students provide a helpful tool to guide decisions but the availability of this information should not be seen as a substitute for high quality advice and guidance in schools from age 14.”
