As part of the Hertfordshire Higher Education Consortium, The University of Hertfordshire works in partnership with Further Education colleges to deliver innovative, high quality courses that support vocational higher education. As well as traditional Foundation Degrees, the Consortium is now offering Extended Degrees in more business-facing and technical areas. Students start these courses with an initial year of study in college and then progress on to university. Hertfordshire also accommodate students who wish to gain their degree through part-time study, alongside their work. In partnership with Oaklands College, they have established University Campus St Albans, which offers flexible and part-time degree courses, typically taught in the evening or online.
In Short:
- The Higher Education Consortium encompasses the University of Hertfordshire and four Further Education Colleges
- 15,000 students have come to the University through this route since the Consortium was established in 2000.
- 250 students each year take the Extended Degree route into University.
Sal Jarvis, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Hertfordshire said “We are the proud lead member of the Hertfordshire Higher Education Consortium, a highly collaborative and mature partnership between the University and four FE colleges, collectively committed to providing a range of high quality higher education courses across the county. The Consortium arrangement provides students with access to a University of Hertfordshire validated HE course within their local area and provides opportunities and support for students to progress to the University on completion of their course.”
