Communication Officer at University Alliance, Joshua Hastings, writes for the BCC Business and Education Summit 2017 on how universities and business collaborate to boost economic growth.

Joshua highlights regionally-focused growth strategies by Coventry University, Liverpool John Moores University, and Nottingham Trent University, as featured in University Alliance’s Creating innovative regions report.

“Our members within University Alliance are anchors in their regional and local economies, working closely with more than 16,000 enterprises (including 11,000 SMEs), as well as public sector bodies. Alliance universities provide companies with the knowledge from around the world that can transform their businesses, talent to drive innovation from within, routes to finance to allow businesses to take risks, and new physical spaces where they can grow.

“We are natural leaders in local growth initiatives, able to operate across administrative and geographic borders to provide businesses and investors with the critical continuity and connectivity they require. Universities can play an important role in Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), linking up the work of neighbouring areas to tackle skills gaps.”
