University Alliance welcomes the announcement from NHS England and the Department for Health and Social Care of a new mitigation fund to sustain Level 7 apprenticeships in health and care, following widespread concern over the withdrawal of Level 7 funding for learners aged 22 and older.
Vanessa Wilson CEO of University Alliance said:
“We are pleased and relieved to see the government has listened to our calls to preserve Level 7 apprenticeships in health and care through a new mitigation fund.
“Level 7 apprenticeships have played an essential role in developing the advanced skills our health and care sectors urgently need. This new funding will go a long way to support the delivery of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan, through the continued professional development of the healthcare workforce.”
“The scale and scope of the mitigation fund must meet the NHS’s workforce needs, and the devil will be in the detail in that regard. But we hope this fund will provide sustained support for upskilling experienced professionals to meet the evolving needs of the workforce, and will be expanded and secured beyond 2029.”
