Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering at Coventry University

The UK’s First ‘Faculty on the Factory Floor’

Established in 2014, the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) marks a step-change in the way the UK is tackling industry’s well-documented skills and technology gaps.

Since establishment, AME has flourished to become an award-winning facility, recognised as the UK’s first ‘Faculty on the Factory Floor’ with a Queen’s Anniversary Prize.

Continuing the journey to accelerate skills development and technological change in the region, in 2023 AME received a six million pound investment.

Accelerating manufacturing solutions

Established through its industry collaboration with Unipart Manufacturing, the institute provides technologies and solutions, industry-ready graduates, and world-leading research.

AME’s journey

Following a six-million-pound investment, AME has expanded with state-of-the-art equipment, boasting an additional 2000 metres of space featuring new teaching and research facilities, as well as digital manufacturing and engineering, manufacturing metrology, and functional materials laboratories.

Leading manufacturing skills development and technological change in the region, the revamped facility marks a critical step in tackling the challenges presented by engineering skills gaps, the transition of electric transport manufacturing, and working towards the 2050 net zero target.
